We Decided to Build

My boyfriend Ryan was in the market for a house when we met. He was considering buying one when his lease ended in August, a mere 6 months after we met, but he decided to renew his lease instead. I thought it was a romantic notion, like, "Awww, he's waiting for my lease to end so we can move in together!" While this may be a delusional thought to some, especially after only knowing someone for six months, I had a pretty good feeling about this guy.

Sure enough, one beautiful day in early November, we were driving back to his apartment from lunch, when I said, "Let's go look at houses today!" kind of thinking he would brush it off. Instead, he responded with, "I want to play guitar for a little bit first, and then, yeah definitely." I'm pretty sure I texted my mom a series of exclamation points immediately following that exchange.

After reading a few chapters of The House of Hades for me, and mastering a few songs on Band Fuse for him, we headed out to look at various neighborhoods nearby. We found lovely neighborhoods, and ugly neighborhoods, houses on the large creek that runs through this part of town, and cute little cul-de-sacs. Then we took a right turn onto a street where a prominent "Model Home" sign was posted. We cruised right past it and drove down every street in that neighborhood, pointing out houses we liked, and agreeing on the style and landscape on almost all of them. On the way back out of the neighborhood, I stopped in to the main office (bypassing the model home as we were both starved after nearly 4 hours of driving through neighborhoods) and met Angela, who gave me a stack of floorplans to consider.

That night, over a dinner of Pioneer Woman corn chowder with Publix mojo rotisserie chicken, we looked over the floorplans and decided the Virginian II floorplan was for us and never looked back!

Please note the pictures in the Virginian II link above are from the model home. The model is a Virginian I, which is slightly different, and also has all of the upgrades, so our house will look slightly different. The interactive floorplan is just below.

I will be posting a lot over the next few days to catch everyone up to speed on the process so far, so stay tuned!
